The Salvation Army’s Annual Fundraising Dinner: A Night of Service and Community Spirit

The Salvation Army recently hosted its annual fundraising dinner, and members of Rotaract and Altus Teens Interact (ATI) stepped up to support the event and serve those who dedicate themselves to helping the community. Six dedicated ATI students, including this year’s president and vice president, volunteered their time and energy to assist with the evening’s activities.
Despite being a small group, their impact was significant—organizers praised them for accomplishing the work of twenty people. The students not only contributed meaningfully but also expressed how much they enjoyed the opportunity to give back. Their enthusiasm and commitment exemplify the spirit of service and leadership that ATI encourages in its members.

Meet Bella Harford, a bright and dedicated student in the Class to Careers program at Altus High School. Through this program, Bella is gaining hands-on experience in injury care and rehabilitation. She's learning when and how to apply hot and cold packs, which exercises are best suited for specific injuries, and how to use various machines and tools to target different muscle groups. For example, she's been trained to use a goniometer—a device that measures joint range of motion.

The phrase “Hurt So Good” perfectly captures the spirit of her work in physical therapy. In the photo, Bella is pictured alongside Valir’s Clinic Director, James Patterson, and PTA Tyson Ledbetter, who are demonstrating the use of a percussion gun, a tool commonly used to relieve muscle tension.

Meet Emily Waites, one of our exceptional interns from the Class to Career Internship Program! She’s pictured here working alongside Amanda Davis, Public Relations Director for Altus Public Schools, as they collaborate on social media content for National Bullying Prevention Month and National Book Month. Emily has already made a big impact — Mrs. Davis praised her for writing, editing, and producing a video on the district’s new cell phone policy, which was featured during student orientation.

Just another day at the APS Bus Barn! As part of his Class to Career Internship, Ayden Nicholas is responsible for keeping the buses and patrol cars clean. Under the guidance of APS Maintenance Director Sammy Cryer, Ayden stays busy working with the many vehicles that make up the district’s fleet. From hands-on maintenance, like learning to change the oil, to learning the day-to-day operations behind the scenes, he’s quickly discovering there’s always something new to learn.
